Try the guide on three export failures
Two exports fail because their destination folders are missing. The third has the wrong input filename. Download the cases and check whether the guide lets you apply the directory fix only where it belongs.
Download the complete example (.zip)
These are invented support cases for a small local Python exporter. The program copies a CSV file to the destination in its configuration. The recorded failures and repairs come from running that program.
Run the complete example
- Extract the ZIP and open a terminal in its
support-guide-examplefolder. - Use Python 3. The scripts use its standard library, so there are no packages to install. The original runs used Python 3.14.8 on macOS.
- Run the cases:
python3 run.py
The script creates a new temporary folder, runs the cases and prints the path to its fresh result.json. It leaves the files there for inspection. The ZIP also contains the original recorded result; your run will have its own paths and timestamps.
The checks confirm that the directory repair works for A and B and that the guide stops C before that repair. The script then tries the rejected blanket advice on C separately and tests C's confirmed input-filename correction.
Follow the guide yourself
Prepare fresh cases without applying any fixes. Run this from the extracted folder, using a destination that does not already exist:
python3 run.py --prepare-only /tmp/support-guide-example-manual
If that folder exists, choose a new name and use it in the next command too. Open guide.md from the downloaded bundle and keep it beside your terminal. The guide stays in the bundle's root; the exporter and diagnostic scripts are copied into each prepared case folder.
cd /tmp/support-guide-example-manual/A
python3 export.py
python3 diagnose.py
The first export is expected to fail. Follow the guide's check before creating the confirmed destination directory, then compare the output with its source. Repeat from the clean B and C folders. C should stop at the input-file check; do not use the directory fix for that case.
The diagnostic covers the configured input and destination directory in this exporter. If the result differs, keep the configuration and error for investigation. These sample paths do not identify files in another system.
